Hello everyone and welcome to this episode of my interview series.
Today, we’ve got Patrick Rosevear who is an intellectual property lawyer and under cover counterfeit “detective” helping brands solve their counterfeit issues in China.
China has a reputation for fakes this mostly comes from the fashion industry but it is still a big problem for beauty brands as well
WHILST BEAUTY CUSTOMERS DO NOT KNOWINGLY WANT TO PURCHASE FAKES, SOMETIMES IT CAN BE DIFFICULT TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE
It is worth your while checking out the size of the problem – even for brands who are not in China, if your brand has traction the chances are there will be someone faking it.
4 pieces of advice to get on top of the problem:
- Own your trademark in China – to understand more about this see a previous episode with Mark Schaub
- Get on top of counterfeit issues early by taking down links before anyone is making too much money!
- Monitor it regularly every 3-6 months so you can act quickly
- Many Beauty products are sold in private groups on wechat which are impossible to search so you need to go to the wholesale platforms where the resellers are buying
